A 100% Native-Owned Company
Olea, Solórzano & Austin, LLC (OSA) began as an idea among a close group of colleagues who shared a common belief: the future of Native Nations should be controlled by Native people. Their belief stemmed from their experiences growing up on the reservation and bearing witness to the problems that their people faced. They watched as their people suffered from oppression by the federal government. They watched as drugs, alcohol, domestic violence, gangs, unemployment, suicide, and poverty took hold in their communities.
They watched as non-Native companies took advantage of their people and nation. They watched as non-Natives, who claimed a genuine interest in helping Native Nations, lined their pockets with tribal money by proposing solutions which fell short of the results they promised; they turned the Native plight into a money-making, reputation-building machine. As the non-Native individuals, companies, and firms became richer, the crisis in Indian Country remained the same, and the suffering of Native people continued. To the future members of OSA, things needed to change and the call for help from a forgotten people needed to be answered, not by outsiders, but by the people themselves.
Our mission is simple: to put the future of Native Nations back in the hands of Native people. We do so by using our personal experiences, Native ways of thinking, scholarship, and international foresight. Our company logo and slogan represents our mission, vision, and goals.
The OSA logo has three arrows, representing the founding members of the company. The arrows are tied together by the medicine wheel, representing the Native way of life, customs, traditions, language, and culture. The arrows point in different directions to represent the different types of knowledge held by each member. The arrows also represent protecting the Native way of life (i.e. the medicine wheel). The star above the arrows is the North Star, the star that never moves, just like the OSA mission which is unwavering. Accordingly, we are resolute in purpose; realistic in our judgments; and ready to shoot.
